Samanvi Kanugula is an MD/MPH student at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine (Class of ‘26). She graduated from Northwestern University with a double major in Biological Sciences and Global Health Studies, a minor in Sociology, and certificate in Leadership. Since college, Samanvi has been passionate about women's health equity, maternal morbidity and mortality, and access to various social determinants of health to improve health outcomes.

In undergrad, Samanvi worked with the Adonai Child Centre (a community health center and school) to conduct qualitative interviews with community members in a rural Ugandan village called Namugoga to gather information on access to essential resources in the community. Using this data, she collaborated with Adonai and Rotary International to secure a $34,000 Global Grant for an income-generating safe water project at a local girls’ orphanage which has helped provide a sustainable source of safe water to that part of the community.

She is interested in pursuing a career in OB/GYN while continuing to be an active participant in community advocacy and policy work. She currently works with the Collaborative on Child Homelessness of Illinois to advocate for housing security for pregnant and postpartum persons and infants. She co-authored the Illinois Maternal and Child Health and Housing Consensus Document to provide recommendations to policymakers on how to improve maternal and child health outcomes through housing security.
