Featuring OBGYN Dr. Sameena Rahman

Dr. Sameena Rahman is a board-certified OBGYN with a private solo practice in downtown Chicago specializing in female sexual medicine, menopause management, 4th trimester care, and pelvic pain.   Dr. Rahman started her own practice to focus on her special areas of interest to ensure patients have their best quality of life. Through her research and dedication, she is one of the few physicians nationally to receive the designation of ISSWSH (International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health ) Fellow (IF) and is actively involved with

cutting edge approaches to sexual pain and sexual dysfunction. She also is an active member of the IPPS, International Pelvic Pain Society, and specializes in a multidisciplinary approach to chronic pelvic pain. For midlife women, Dr. Rahman is also a specialist in menopause management with the designation of Certified Menopause Physician through the North American Menopause Society (NCMP).

She was raised in North Carolina and received a  B.S. at Duke University in Biology and studied Women's Studies as well.  She attended medical school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and completed her OBGYN residency up north at the University of Massachusetts.  She lived in Los Angeles for the first 5 years after residency and worked as an attending at the University of Southern California.   She currently holds the title of Clinical Assistant Professor in OBGYN at Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine where she teaches medical students and residents and received teaching awards in the process.

 

She has a long history of being passionate about women's health and has worked internationally (before kids) on a number of medical missions around the globe as well as a short stent with the World Health Organization in Geneva, Switzerland. 

 

Dr. Rahman has a special interest in diminishing stigma around sexual health and menstruation in certain populations and is published and researched on sexual dysfunction among Muslim women. She also has an interest and has spoken about unconscious bias in medicine.  She is outspoken on all of these topics and has a social media presence as gynogirl on Instagram and recently launched a youtube channel gynogirltv where she disseminates information and promotes education and awareness for women around the globe.

 

In her spare time, she spends time with her husband and 3 kids ranging from 10 yo to 20 months and enjoys traveling (pre-pandemic ),  running and her peloton .
