Symposium Engagement Chair

Vidya Visvabharathy is a medical student at Stritch School of Medicine at Loyola University in Chicago (Class of ’23). She graduated from Fordham University in 2014 with a double major in Sociology and Spanish. After college, she spent time in Lima, Peru as a Princeton in Latin America fellow researching HIV transmission in the MSM (Men who have Sex with Men) community, which lead her to pursue a Masters in Public Health at the University of Illinois at Chicago. There, she became enthralled with patient education and the biological sciences as a clinical researcher, ultimately propelling her pursuit toward a career in medicine.

Vidya carries this same passion for health equity and social justice as an advocate for her patients throughout her training in medical school. As the founder of the Loyola chapter of Students for a National Health program, she advocates for universal healthcare to prioritize patient safety and increase equitable access to healthcare. She is also involved in academic tutoring, Spanish interpreting, reproductive health research, and advocacy for medical trainees at her medical school.

She looks forward to promoting health equity as a board member of the Forum on Female Sexual Medicine. She hopes to help dispel knowledge gaps, myths, and empower both patients and providers to discuss sexual medicine more openly. In her spare time, Vidya enjoys adoring her dog Lilo, baking, reading medical fiction, and playing the piano.
