Sumiko is currently a medical student at The University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine in the Class of 2024. She grew up in Corvallis, OR and studied biology at Pomona College in Claremont, CA. Upon graduating in 2015, she served in a Americorps position teaching bilingual pregnancy and lactation education at federally qualified health centers in Denver. She then went on to work as a research coordinator for family planning clinical trials at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, OR. Sumiko plans to specialize in obstetrics and gynecology and is committed to advancing reproductive health and health equity.
