Sarala Prabhu is a medical student at Rush Medical College in the Class of 2025. Sarala grew up in Clarksburg, MD and graduated from University of Maryland with a dual degree in Biology and Psychology and a concentration in violence studies. During undergrad, Sarala volunteered as a medical scribe at the Pregnancy Aid Clinic in College Park, MD a non-profit clinic that provides free Ob-Gyn services to the local underserved community where she developed her passion for women’s sexual and reproductive health. Following undergrad, Sarala participated in a year of service working as a STEM teacher in Newark, New Jersey as a part of the AmeriCorps Urban Education Fellowship where she learned more about intersection between health outcomes and educational disparities present in urban communities. 

 

Afterwards, Sarala completed her Master’s in Medical Sciences at Loyola University Chicago. While completing her Master’s program, Sarala also worked as a medical volunteer at Old Irving Park Community Clinic, a non-profit clinic that provides care to the uninsured community in Chicago where she learned more about health disparities present in disadvantaged communities. During her gap year, Sarala worked as a Clinical Research Coordinator at the University of Chicago Internal Medicine Department conducting research on self-management of COPD/Asthma to promote health literacy in the Southside community of Chicago. Sarala has a passion for women’s health, health literacy, and academic medicine, and looks forward to contributing to the Forum and creating more awareness for female sexual medicine.
